Chair yoga returns to Harmony Yoga! Join Jane for an accessible yoga practice that’s healing, compassionate, encouraging, and fun! Chair yoga is a great class for anyone who’d like to develop a gentle yoga practice. It’s especially helpful for people living with chronic pain and illness, or physical injuries and limitations. Jane’s classes are informed by her continued studies and her own experiences and challenges.
A chair provides students with a safe foundation from which to explore the many benefits of yoga postures, breathing, and mindfulness. Through yoga, we strengthen the connection to our selves and experience the proven benefits of yoga, including reduced stress; and increased strength, balance, flexibility, and well-being. Students are encouraged to find a safe practice consistent with their present ability and range of motion.
Most postures are performed seated in a chair, with an optional 10-15 minutes of standing poses for those who’d like to work on balance and strength using the chair as a support. In addition to yoga postures, a typical class will include 5-10 minutes of breathing, mindfulness, and compassion practices. Savasana, the final integration of the practice in each class, is a seated guided relaxation.
